A letter from Flite to Freedom

Our 2nd Annual Art of Freedom

Tara Whitehead Stotland explains the purpose of our event

October, 2019

On behalf of the FLITE to Freedom Board of Directors, I would like to cordially invite you to support our upcoming fundraising event the Art of Freedom and Art Show and reception.

Sales from the art and tickets to the show will raise funds to empower enslaved, unfairly encumbered or socially excluded people. The 2019 fundraiser will benefit one very worthy organization: Mosaic Family Services. In our second year, we know it well as an amazing Dallas-based Charity that serves survivors of human rights abuses and domestic violence from around the world and within the Dallas/Fort Worth community.  This is why we have again selected Mosaic Family Services as our primary benefactor for 2019.

The Art of Freedom will be held on November 9, 2019, at The Lawley Art Gallery on Dragon Street in the Dallas Design District. It will feature amazing works from artists of all ages and spotlight aspiring musicians from the Dallas area. This year, we will place an emphasis on our artists, and many will be on-site to share their work and passion behind their art.

Lisa Jenkins - Honorary Chair

We are particularly honored to host this event at Tanner Lawley’s gallery and have Lisa Jenkins, founder of Dallas Academy of Music and Performing Arts and of the DAMPA Foundation, serve as our event’s Honorary Chair.

You know the statistics: Experts place the number of human trafficking victims between 21-29 million people, which means that more people are enslaved today than at any point in history.  Current estimates suggest that each year, up to 250,000 United States citizens and 60,000 foreign nationals are at risk for exploitation within the United States. In addition, 18,000-20,000 people are estimated to be trafficked into the United States annually. Texas is ranked second in the number of hotline calls made to the National Human Trafficking Resource Center (NHTRC). In addition, US statistics show that a woman is assaulted or beaten every 9 seconds.  FLITE to Freedom is committed to helping Mosaic empower these underserved survivors.
